ICT in teaching and learning
Written by Edith Schoeneck on 9.6.2010
We were lucky to have a useful and helpful training seminar about ICT in teaching and learning, for improving that important competence.
We have be trained on the following subjects:
E-Living, e – Community/ Citizenship and e-learning.
We explored current uses of ICT in everyday life (e-living),
we learned how to make connections between e-living, e-community/citizenship and e-learning.
We recognise how global technological developments influence social and learning and life.
We had also the experience, using wireless keyboard and mouse as a learning tool, and explore electronic mind mapping as a learning tool.
We heard about mobile tools and blooms for increasing awareness of pedagogical uses for and handheld devices and we became aware of a number of Web 2.0 tools.
It was exciting to explore opportunities and challenges of using Web.2 tools in education.
Our trainer David introduce virtual communication methods and made us familiar with the difficulties of virtual communication.
We developed a good practise guide (etiquette) for different forms of virtual communication and learned how to create a blog with Blogger.
It was great to discover all this useful tools and appropriate competences which are so helpful and useful in daily life, because digital competence is one of the eight key competences in life long learning.
It involves the confident and critical use of information society technology (IST)and basic skills in information and communication technology (ICT);
Our trainer has been very successful to break down learning barriers opened our mind for using that tools with pleasure.
Intercultural communication by using the arts

We had the great opportunity to experience the forth training module which was part of the ILMAE Grundtvig project in Ansbach, Germany:
Have you ever heard of Kasper Hauser?
Well, we heard a lot about him at Ansbach during this 4th international meeting of the ILMAE Grundtvig project as our German partners have developed a training module called „Intercultural communication by using the arts“ on the basis of the historical figure of Kasper Hauser, a young man who lived in the 19th century, but of whom we know very little. He seems to have appeared around 1828 in Nuremberg being around 16 years old at that time. He was unable to speak except for a few memorized sentences. He could neither walk nor was he able to respond to his environment. He seemed mentally retarded, but with the help of some genuine teachers he could very quickly compensate for his deficiencies, mainly by simply imitating his environment. Finally he was murdered in 1833 in Ansbach.
Firstly Professor Gerard Armanski introduced us to the live of Kaspar Hauser and the myth that still goes with his name. Secondly Professor Barbara Heddrich from the University of Ansbach gave us a very interesting lecture on “The Incorporation of the Other through Imitation”.
The next day we visited the Museum of Ansbach where we could enjoy the exhibition of Kaspar Hauser with numerous personal objects being on display, such as letters written by him, his clothes and even his underwear!
Afterwards theatre pedagogue Sebastian Engman and our trainer Christoph von Weitzel gave us a short introduction to their pedagogical work, followed by some exercises which we were asked to try out by using non-verbal communication only. Another exercise took us back to the 18th century, and back to a sign language illegible to someone from our time and socio-cultural background. In this exercise we were requested to interpret four genre paintings representing the four seasons and to depict them. It was a very interesting experience for us to use non-verbal means of communication in these exercises and we very much enjoyed the acting. Finally Edith Schoeneck gave us an art-historical interpretation of the pictures, which were all painted by Johann Michael Schwabeda (1734-1794), who was also the court painter of Ansbach.
On a personal level, I found the module really interesting and useful and I can very well imagine it to turn into a lively project which people joining in from around the world. Hopefully a lot of participants get the chance to enjoy this module and to benefit from it.
